Glenrock Lagoon Historical artifact locations

There’s a conservation management and cultural tourism plan for Glenrock Lagoon online at http://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/ that is a wealth of information about all the ~150 historical artifacts in the area!

…including GPS location details!

After a bit of poking at python, I got the UTM information uploaded to a GPS, and a GPX file of all the waypoints is available from here. (For best results, open this file in Google Earth!). You will need to read the report to make sense of what the waypoints are… But no more stumbling across things at random, like I’ve been doing for 20 years! :)

ZAGG Invisible Shield … fail

I’d bought a full body ZAGG “Invisible Shield” to go with the OpenMoko Neo… and got something that wasn’t usable. Besides from all the small parts that need to be held in place with the palm of your hand while they set, the show-stopper is the larger parts were unusably distorted when the manufacturer placed them on the backing paper.

Would not buy again. You probably shouldn’t as well. :/

Ugh. Ever since I got the Neo, I’ve been spending my spare spare time trying to write software for it in Python, as its been the best option for knocking-up quick&dirty concepts with the numerous frameworks/modules provided. While still a novice with the programming language, I’ve written less-than-trivial useful code in it.

Unfortunately, when it gets to supporting GUIs… obfuscation doesn’t even being to describe what they’ve done. Sure, it might only need 30 lines of code to get a basic app going… but anything non-trivial? Be prepared to blow 800+ hours of reading ‘tutorials’ written by rank amateur non-educators. It’s really fscking frustrating for a Sunday Programmer like me. :-/

GNU/Hurd port of pkgsrc

A bit over a year ago, I ported the (NetBSD, but cross-platform) pkgsrc software packaging and installation system to the GNU Hurd. I couldn’t find anyone upstream @ pkgsrc who would give it the time of day, so I might was well mention it here for the sake of Google…
