CJB Imageboard Mk.II

Inside the Agestar Linux-based NAS

Posted on Saturday 29 March 2008

I noticed that Jaycar had discounted one of their smart NAS devices, and after finding a firmware update and disassembling it, there was revealed to be a Linux-2.4.27 busybox-based embedded board inside, with some nice features like an internal serial console, and the full-featured U-Boot monitor program (providing tftp, ide, etc. booting). Aside from installing a full GNU environment, it’ll make for a very nice (and relatively cheap) ARM development board for running stuff like FORTH on the bare metal.

Additional hardware details: Samsung 256Mbit (32MB) RAM, JM20337 USB2.0 to SATA & PATA Bridge, Eon 64Mbit (8MB) Flash, IP101A 10/100 Fast Ethernet Transceiver.
